art rooted in place
Every piece starts with a place. Sea glass I find along the shoreline might become a mosaic of the beach scene. Water collected from the Sound is used to watercolor the view. Wildflowers from a trail run get preserved in resin pendants, and leaves or driftwood I find while hiking get pressed into clay.
Whenever I can, I also make the art right there in the place it came from. I love that instead of just making something inspired by a place, a little piece of that place becomes part of the art.
